McCreary County, KY
Scenic
McCreary County is located in southern Kentucky
within the Daniel
Boone National Forest and
the Big South Fork National River and
Recreation Area.
This affords locals and visitors a unique
opportunity
to experience, explore and enjoy nature first
hand!
McCreary County was the last of Kentucky's 120
counties
to be formed, taking portions of neighboring
Pulaski,
Wayne and Whitley Counties.
Visitors to
our county will find the people some of
the friendliest and most
hospitable anywhere.
The terrain features dozens of waterfalls
and arches,
along with cliff lines and streams
that are truly
breath taking.
McCreary County shares Cumberland
Falls,
the "Niagara of the South",
with neighboring Whitley
County.
The Falls is the largest south of Niagara Falls
and
east of the Mississippi and features the only
active moonbow in
the western hemisphere.
We also boast a scenic railway to
take you
deep into the heart of what once was coal
country,
two restored coal camps providing tours and
cultural
and historical programs, and
vast offerings in outdoor
recreation.
Thanks for visiting us...stay a while!
