Big South Fork National River
and Recreation Area

The free flowing Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and its tributaries pass through 90 miles of scenic gorges and valleys containing a wide range of natural and historic features. With the Big South Fork, lush vegetation now blankets ridges and covers sites that once were homesteads, logging camps, and mining communities.
Dramatic cliffs, arches, rock shelters, and other interesting features are carved into the sandstone of the plateau. Hundreds of geologic wonders await discovery by adventurous explorers.
The 125,000 acre area of the park offers a broad range of natural, cultural and recreational opportunities including camping, whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and fishing.

Daniel Boone National Forest

The Daniel Boone National Forest encompasses more than 700,000 acres of land stretching across Kentucky from Morehead to McCreary County. The land is generally rugged with steep forested ridges, narrow valleys, and a cliff line of over 3,400 miles. The Stearns Ranger District contains two horse camps, a family campground, shooting ranges, the Beaver Creek Wilderness Area, Natural Arch Scenic Area, and 54 miles of the Sheltowee Trace National Trails.
The forest offers many outdoor recreational opportunities including backpacking, camping, picnics, rock climbing, boating, hunting, fishing, or just relaxing with a scenic view.
