Origins of the
Quilt Block
Trail Project

The Quilt Block project originated in 2001, with Donna Sue Groves desire to honor her mother, an avid quilter.
She proceeded to paint a quilt square on the family barn.  The idea, and quilt squares, quickly spread throughout Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.

The Big South Fork Quilt Trail, located in Scenic McCreary County, Kentucky, began in late 2006 with the idea of blocks commemorating the quilts designed and quilted by local women for the Kentucky Bi-Centennial(1792-1992) quilt project(Scenes from McCreary County).
