One of the reasons McCreary County is known as "Kentucky's Outdoor Playground" is the abundance of trails for horseback riding. With 100 miles of marked riding trails and countless old roads available, opportunities abound for day, weekend or week-long riding enjoyment through pristine wilderness that you won't want to miss.

Barren Fork

Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest, off Highway 27 (right behind the Ranger's Station in Whitley City). This primitive camping facility has 41 sites with trail leading into Stampede Run.

Bear Creek

Located in the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area just off Highway 741, on your way into the blue Heron Mining Community. All 25 sites have water and electricity. You will also enjoy the convenience of a modern bathhouse with hot water.

Bell Farm

Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest near the Rock Creek area on Highway 1363. Get back to nature in this horse camp designed for group camping. It has five large sites with hitch-posts for primitive camping.

Stampede Run

Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest off Highway 27 on Beulah Heights Road north of Whitley City. These trails offer lots of rock houses, the historical Sheltowee Trace and is a direct link to the Barren Fork horse trails. With 30 campsites, you have your choice of electric or primitive with water and a shower house.
